#WakeUpReady with Kalms + GIVEAWAY

Hey guys! So today I wanted to talk to you about an extremely important topic which is SLEEP! I’ve teamed up with Kalms in preparation for World Sleep Day on the Friday 15th March to bring you my sleep tips and also a mini giveaway for you which will be hosted over on my Facebook page.

An outstanding one in three people in the UK have trouble with their sleep and I’ve talked about on my blog before, I personally struggle with insomnia. There’s a lot of struggles in modern life which can mean it’s pretty hard to switch our brains off at the end of the day and get the zzz’s we need. The thing is, we often forget how important sleep is and neglect our sleep habits often. However, lack of sleep has been linked to weight gain, heart disease, and depression.


Turning your room into a sleep haven and sticking to a positive sleep hygiene can help with your overall health and leave you feeling ready for the day ahead

Keeping your space clean and tidy.

I know from personal experience and being a messy student, when my sleep area gets cluttered it effects not only my mood but also my sleep. Piles of dirty washing and unwashed dishes can make your bedroom a messy, unhygienic and an un-relaxing environment. Keeping a clean bedroom can help declutter your mind and help you drift off peacefully.

Try a traditional herbal remedy

All About Colour

Research suggests that certain colours can have an impact on our mood. Therefore think about trying to incorporate green and blues. These are great for bedrooms as they promote nature and tranquillity.

I’ve got too many candles… said no one ever

I am obsessed with candles. I have so many with different scents for different moods and I have ones that particularly help me sleep. This candle from Primark with Wild Sage and Cedar is really relaxing and I love using it on an evening. Aside from candles, incense is another great way to use scents in your bedroom, and lavender is perfect before bed.

Cut Out That Caffeine

It’s no surprise that caffeine can have a negative impact on the way we sleep. As a general rule, it is best to not consume any caffeine after 3pm to ensure you get sound asleep.

Clear your busy schedule

Stop working at least an hour before you go bed and allow yourself some downtime, which will help your mind to relax. As a student I’m very guilty of working through the night trying to get essays and such finished. Make sure you’re prioritising both health and sleep and give yourself that window of time before bed to relax. Then you can wake up the next day much more refreshed to get back into your work. Also bare in mind staying away from tech around bedtime. Instead of scrolling through Instagram, pick up an interesting book or magazine.

Establish a regular relaxing bedtime routine

Sticking to a regular nightly routine can aid a refreshing night’s sleep. Try having a shower or bath before going to bed. The warm water can relax your muscles and help you to drift off peacefully when going to sleep. Getting into a routine has personally really helped me with sleep. This routine lets our brains know it’s time to settle down for bed and then we become more sleepy and ready.

If you try to address your sleeping problems but your symptoms persist beyond 3-4 weeks, you should consult a doctor to check whether there may be an underlying cause for your sleep problems.

    First of all I want to say superb blog! I
    had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.

    I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your mind prior to writing.
    I have had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out there.

    I do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost
    just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips?

      Thank you! Really appreciated! I get what you mean, I definitely need to be in the mood to write and this motivation does come and go which can be annoying. I’m a massive fan of music, and I feel like listening to music I love before and during writing really does help. I’d definitely suggest searching for something you enjoy and having a little self care moment before writing, it may just help clear your mind!
