May // The Monthly Playlist

Hello and welcome back to Oh Elizabeth! I’ve had an idea for a little series I want to do here on the blog and that’s The Monthly Playlist. So each month I’m going to be bringing you a playlist with a collection of songs that I’ve been loving. This is by no means to say I have the best music taste at all, I actually have quite a mish-mash of a music taste, however I thought it would be a nice post to share each month.

As this is my first of this series, this month’s May playlist also has quite a few April songs too but it’s all good. The inspiration for this playlist is new releases, old faves, new finds and everything in-between. I’ve put the playlist in an order which I felt flowed the best as the first and last tracks are so different. We pretty much go from chilled and soft to high-energy pop.

1. Top to Toe // Fenne Lily

This song was released about half way through April but I didn’t find it till May. It’s the type of slow pace chilled song I love to listen to on an evening, whilst doing some work or winding down.

2. Hunger // Florence & The Machine

This track is new to May and I’ve been loving it so much. I’m so glad they are back and this track has got me super excited for the album ‘High as Hope’ to drop in June eeee.

3. Shotgun // George Ezra

4. Paradise // George Ezra

George Ezra’s new album dropped in March and I’m so happy he’s back on the scene making music. It’s such a great album and they are the perfect songs to listen to on those sunny days we’ve been blessed with lately.

5. Whole Wide World // Cage The Elephant

This is an old fave which was released last year. Again, I think this is a perfect song for those summer days, it’s the perfect combination between like chilled but yet so upbeat. Love it.

6. Son Of A Preacher Man // Dusty Springfield

My mum treated me to the Pulp Fiction Album on Vinyl this month. It’s one I’ve wanted to add to my collection for so long as the film is one of my faves and the soundtrack is perfect. This is one of my favourite tracks and there’s been some drunk boogies to this one.

7. Star Treatment // Arctic Monkeys

8. One Point Perspective // Arctic Monkeys

The album so many of us had been waiting for released this month. Yes, the Arctic Monkeys finally have released new music. ‘Tranquility Base’ is the spot where Neil Armstrong first landed on the moon, and this album is sure a leap for Arctic Monkeys. There’s been a lot of discussion and opinions on the album. For me, it’s definitely not what I expected and it won’t be my favourite album. However like every album from the band, from their earlier music, to Humbug to AM, this album brings something completely different to the table and I like it. These are probably my favourite two tracks off the album.

9. Miracle Aligner // The Last Shadow Puppets

I don’t know if I’m going to get hate for saying this but the Arctic Monkeys album reminded me so much of The Last Shadow Puppets stuff so I’ve also been giving them a good listening to this month. Everything You’ve Come to Expect is a beautiful album, I’d check it out if you haven’t already.

10. Broken Whiskey Glass // Post Malone

This track is from the album ‘Stoney’ by Post Malone. The release of his new album has got me listening to him none stop so I added this to the playlist.

12. Candy Paint // Post Malone

13. Better Now // Post Malone

14. Paranoid // Post Malone

There’s a lot of Post Malone songs as his new album is my favourite this month, so I’ve been listening to him on repeat. ‘beerbongs & bentleys’ is an absolute fave and it’s made me fall in love with Post Malone even more. I couldn’t pick one favourite.

15. Love Lies // Khalid, Normani

This is a release from February but I’ve been listening to it a lot recently. It’s got a super chill vibe but I love the remixes before going out too.

16. Guatemala // Rae Sremmurd, Swae Lee, Slim Jxmmi

May also saw new music from Rae Sremmurd with a new album SR3MM. I really love the vibe and beat of this track.

17. This Is America // Childish Gambino

If you haven’t heard or seen the music video for this song yet then you’ve probably been living under a rock. This was a music video that shook the internet and approached many issues of today.

18. A$AP Forever // A$AP Rocky, Moby

This is a new release by A$AP Rocky. Moby is credited as a featured artist, as the track prominently samples “Porcelain.” The music video, as always with his tracks, is absolutely insane. I love how it’s done. Another great track by a great man.

19. Bad Vibe // M.O, Lotto Boyzz, Mr Eazi

This is a great easy listening song with a fab beat. I love listening to this song when going out or wanting to feel more upbeat. It’s got high energy and is getting me ready for Summer.

20. All Night // Chance The Rapper, Knox Fortune

I’ve been listening to this track a lot recently. It’s got a great beat and really lifts your spirits. Take a moment to listen to the lyrics as it’s actually really funny and I didn’t realise what it was about at first. A fab summer song to be played loudly and often.

21. Genius // Sia, Diplo, Labrinth

Again this is just a fab up-beat track when I’m wanting something more energised. I love Sia’s voice and I think this is a great collaboration of artists.

I hope you enjoyed this post and as always thank you so much for reading. Don’t forget to check out the playlist and give it a listen. What were your favourite songs this month? Let me know in the comments below x
